What Anthony Bourdain Said About Harvey Weinstein After Asia Argento's Rape Allegations

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain died from an apparent suicide Friday at 61 years old. His death was confirmed by CNN. Bourdain traveled the world, sampling cuisines from around the globe, and he was also a harsh critic of disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. His girlfriend, Italian actress Asia Argento, is one of the dozens of women who accused Weinstein of sexual assault, harassment or rape after he was exposed in an October New Yorker article.

Argento was one of the first women to come forward with allegations of rape. “I am proud and honored to know you,” Bourdain tweeted to Argento in October. “You just did the hardest thing in the world.” He added: “Can we use the word ‘rapist’ now? #Weinstein.”

Bourdain called out other celebrities who remained silent about Weinstein’s alleged behavior. “How many seventeen year olds have you dressed like they are, in your words, ‘asking for it’?” he tweeted at Donna Karan’s fashion brand DKNY.

He said to Matt Damon: “Looking forward to ‘THE BOURNE APOLOGY’ in which Jason fights off attempts to expose a pimp.”

Argento, 42, claimed Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 1997, by forcefully performing oral sex on her when they were alone in a hotel room together. “He asks me to give a massage. I was, like, ‘Look, man, I am no fucking fool,’” Argento told journalist Ronan Farrow. “But, looking back, I am a fucking fool. And I am still trying to come to grips with what happened.” She added: “It wouldn’t stop. It was a nightmare.”

CNN issued a statement on the chef’s suicide. “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” CNN said Friday. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
